Strawberry Shortcake

1 box French Vanilla cake mix
1 tsp almond flavoring
1 quart to 1 lb of strawberries
8 oz cool whip
8 oz cream cheese, softened
powdered sugar to taste

Bake cake according to directions on the box adding 1 tsp of almond flavoring. Bake in 9 x 13 pan.

Mix cream cheese and cool whip together, adding powdered sugar to desired sweetness.

Wash and slice strawberry in a bowl. Add granulated sugar so to make 'syrup'. Let stand for long enough for sugar to dissolve.

After cake has completely cooled, spread cool whip/cream cheese mixture to cover the cake.

You may add strawberries or let each person add strawberries as it is served.

***This makes for a delish summer dessert. The cool whip topping is lite and the strawberries add a refreshing element.
