1 bag of Fun Size Snickers candy bars, chill and chop
6 apples, cored and chopped into bite sized pieces (Granny Smith and/or Red Delicious)
1 (12 oz) container Cool Whip
1 (5 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding dry mix (do not prepare)
Mix cool whip and dry pudding mix together.
Mix chopped apples and snickers. Then mix with cool whip mixture.
Chill for at least an hour.
Optional Garnishes:
1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping or caramel apple dip
1/2 cup chopped peanuts, can also sprinkled on top
****This recipe has several versions. Some call for just plain Cool Whip while others call for vanilla or butterscotch pudding mix to be added. I, personally like the vanilla version. Some recipes call for the caramel topping and peanuts to be added before chilled. I let each individual add it as they want just before eating. I also use 3 Granny Smith and 3 Red Delicious. I added my desired amount of Snickers from the Fun Size bag. You may want to use the whole bag or less.
****This recipe can easily be halved using 3 to 4 apples, 8 oz container of Cool Whip, 3.4 oz pudding mix, and less Snickers (your desired amount).
****I have also used both regular Cool Whip (actually Wal-Mart brand) and Light Cool Whip...the light tastes just as good. Also, I couldn't find a 12 oz Cool Whip so I bought the 16oz; it worked just as well.
****I love this salad. Using the red and green apples is great as a treat during the fall and Christmas as well as the summer. I fixed this salad for the 1st time for a family gathering on New Years Day. It was a hit even among the seasoned cooks of my family.
